Install and use
1.1Install the extension
Works in Chrome and Edge. A quick-start page opens after you install it.
- Click the puzzle icon at the top right, find Mossglen, and click the pin next to it.
- Click the Pip icon in the toolbar to open the side panel on the right, or press Alt+M.
- A number on the icon means you have words due for review today.
How do I install the .zip manually?
Unzip it, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode at the top right, click “Load unpacked” and choose the unzipped folder. In Edge, the steps are the same at edge://extensions.
1.2Choose a language
Lookups and recommendations follow your learning language. Choose from 8 and switch anytime.
- The first time you open the side panel, Pip asks which language you’re learning.
- Switching doesn’t delete anything. Word lists, levels and reading history are kept separately for each language.
- The interface follows your browser’s language. You can change it under Settings in the side panel menu.
1.3Reading mode
Open any article in the language you’re learning and click “Read this page” in the side panel, or press Alt+R. Ads and clutter are removed, leaving just the text.
- Tap any word to see its meaning and save it in one click. Select a sentence to translate it.
- Click “Read aloud” to listen to the whole article.
- Turn on translation to show it inline or in two columns.
1.4Video mode
Open a YouTube video with captions and click “Open transcript” in the side panel.
- The captions become a line-by-line transcript that scrolls as the video plays.
- Tap a line to jump the video there. Tap a word to look it up and save it.
- When you finish, take a short quiz to check what you understood.
1.5Words and review
Words you save are scheduled for review on a forgetting curve.
- Saved words are marked on every site. When one is due, hover over it to review.
- In the side panel, click “Review N words” and work through meaning and fill-in-the-blank questions.
- Words you forget come back sooner. Words you know well come back less often.
1.6Ask Pip
Pip is the AI agent in your side panel. It knows your level and your words.
- Select a sentence you don’t understand and click “Ask Pip”. It explains at your level.
- Type a word in the side panel to look it up. Lookups don’t use your AI allowance.
- You can also ask it for an article or video at your level.
2.1Before you start
Mossglen connects to ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex and other AI tools over MCP. Once connected, they can use your word list, level and library.
- You need a free Mossglen account. The first time you connect, you’ll be asked to log in and allow access.
- Explanations and quizzes run on that AI’s own usage. Mossglen doesn’t charge anything extra.
- You can disconnect any time in “Your account”.
