Terms of service
01This agreement
These Terms are a contract between you and iafine, an independent developer. They cover the Mossglen Chrome extension, the website at mossglen.app, and the API at api.mossglen.app — together, the Service.
Installing the extension, creating an account, or using any part of the Service, including as a guest, means you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
Our privacy policy explains what data we handle and forms part of these Terms.
02Eligibility
You must be at least 13 to use the Service, or at least 16 in the European Economic Area. Below the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with a parent or guardian’s consent, and that person accepts these Terms on your behalf.
You may not use the Service if the law that applies to you forbids it.
03What the Service does
Mossglen turns web pages and YouTube videos into calibrated study material. It currently offers:
- A clean reading view built from the page you are on, or from an article you search for or paste in.
- Click-a-word lookup, a saved word list, and highlighting when you meet a word again.
- Spaced-repetition review of your word list.
- Text-to-speech reading in a choice of voices.
- Sentence and full-article translation, and sentence-level breakdowns.
- Pip, an AI reading companion that answers with memory of your learning history.
- Comprehension checks that feed the ability estimate used to pick your next article.
- Bilingual subtitles and study tools for YouTube videos.
Eight target languages are supported today and the interface is available in twelve. The Service is under active development, so features may be added, changed, or withdrawn. We will not remove a feature you are actively paying for without notice, and where such a change is material we will refund the unused portion.
04Your account
You are responsible for your credentials and for what happens under your account. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us at support@mossglen.app promptly if you think someone else has access.
An account is for one person. Do not share it, resell access to it, or run it on behalf of several users.
Give us an email address you actually control. It is how we reach you about billing, security, and changes to these Terms, and it is the address from which we accept data requests.
You may use the Service as a guest. In guest mode your word list and saved articles live only in your browser, capped at 500 words and 20 articles, and are lost if you clear your browser data. Guest use is rate-limited.
05Free plan, Pro plan, and payment
Reading, word lookup, and sentence translation are free forever. The paid tier raises the usage caps and opens every voice.
Current limits, which the pricing page states authoritatively and which may change:
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Reading view, word lookup, sentence translation | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Saved words | 500 | Unlimited |
| Full-article translations | 3 per week | 50 per day |
| Pip questions | 15 per week | 200 per day |
| Voices | Default voice | All 39 voices |
Pro costs USD 9.90 per month or USD 79 per year. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we must collect.
Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly plans every month, annual plans every year — at the price then in effect, until you cancel. We will tell you before any price increase applies to your renewal.
You can cancel at any time in My Account. Cancelling stops future charges and you keep Pro for the rest of the period you have already paid for.
You may request a refund in My Account within 7 days of purchase. We review each request by hand against your actual usage in that period; if AI usage clearly exceeds what a trial would involve we may refund only part of the payment, or decline it. After 7 days we no longer process refunds, though cancelling stays available. None of this limits a statutory right of withdrawal you have under your local consumer law.
Payments are processed by Creem. Your card details go to Creem directly and we never receive them; Creem’s own terms apply to the transaction. If a renewal payment fails we may move your account to Free until payment succeeds — this never deletes your learning data.
06Acceptable use
Use Mossglen to learn. Do not:
- Bypass, script around, or otherwise defeat usage limits, quotas, rate limits, or the checks that separate Free from Pro.
- Use automated means to send bulk requests, crawl our API, or extract content at scale.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or its output as your own product.
- Use the Service to build, train, or evaluate a competing product, model, or dataset.
- Interfere with the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities without our written permission, or try to reach another user’s data.
- Use Mossglen to reach content you are not entitled to, including getting around a paywall, login wall, or other access control.
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, or to process content that is illegal where you are.
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection to us.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches this section. Where a breach is neither serious nor repeated we will try to warn you first.
If you find a security vulnerability, report it to support@mossglen.app rather than exploiting it. We will not pursue good-faith research that is reported promptly and does not touch other users’ data.
07Third-party content and copyright
Mossglen is a reading aid. The articles, videos, and subtitles you read through it belong to their authors or publishers, not to us, and we claim no rights in them.
You are responsible for having lawful access to whatever you bring into the reading view, and for complying with the terms of the sites you read and the copyright law that applies to you. The reading view exists for your own study — not for republication, redistribution, or building a corpus.
To avoid repeating the same work, extracted article text is stored once, keyed by URL and a content hash, and may be served to another user who opens the same URL along with the study material generated from it. The record of who read what stays private to that person. If you are a rights holder and want material removed, send the URL to support@mossglen.app and we will remove it.
Mossglen’s own interface, name, mascot, brand, algorithms, and the ability-measurement and learner-model systems are ours. These Terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service, and nothing more.
08Your content
Your word list, notes, answers, Pip conversations, and anything you paste in remain yours. You grant us only the licence we need to run the Service for you: to store, process, translate, analyse, and transmit that content to the providers listed in our privacy policy, in order to deliver the features you asked for.
We may use aggregated, de-identified data — statistics that cannot be traced back to you — to improve difficulty calibration, the ability model, and the product in general. We do not sell your content and do not use it to target advertising.
09AI-generated output
Quizzes, translations, sentence breakdowns, and Pip’s answers are generated by language models. They can be wrong. Treat them as study aids, not as authority, and verify anything that matters.
Ability estimates, tiers, and vocabulary-size figures are our own statistical estimates from your activity in Mossglen. They are not a certified proficiency result and are not equivalent to CEFR, IELTS, TOEFL, or any official assessment. Please do not present them as one.
Nothing the Service produces is professional, legal, medical, financial, or educational-placement advice.
10Availability
We work to keep the Service running but do not promise uninterrupted availability. It may be unavailable for maintenance, for changes, or because a provider we depend on has failed. We may impose reasonable technical limits to keep the Service stable and affordable for everyone.
11Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, and may ask us to delete your account as the privacy policy describes.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, if the law requires it, or if continuing would put the Service or other users at serious risk. Except where a breach is serious or we are legally constrained, we will give you notice and a chance to put it right. If we end your paid subscription for a reason that is not your breach, we refund the unused portion of the period you paid for.
12Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided as is and as available. To the fullest extent the law allows we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or will produce a particular learning outcome.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded. Where that is so, the exclusions above apply only as far as permitted, and nothing here removes rights your local consumer law gives you.
13Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunity arising out of or relating to the Service.
Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else your local law does not let us exclude.
14Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your use of the Service in breach of these Terms or of the law, including claims that content you brought into the Service infringed someone’s rights.
15Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the date at the top, and for any material change we will tell you in the product or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. Using the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service, and if you are a paying subscriber contact us for a refund of the unused portion.
16Disputes
Where you are a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer-law provisions of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
Before filing anything, please email support@mossglen.app. Almost everything can be sorted out that way.
17General
If any provision of these Terms is unenforceable the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you. These Terms, with the privacy policy and the pricing page, are the entire agreement between us about the Service.
